Network engineering
A tailored onboard network, from structured cabling to Wi-Fi coverage, designed to deliver performance, security and operational continuity throughout the vessel.
The ship's digital value begins with the network.
Every vessel has different spaces, constraints, systems and network demands. That is why Seafy starts by assessing the existing infrastructure and actual operational requirements, turning the data collected into a network design tailored to each vessel.
From Wi-Fi coverage and backbone infrastructure to segmentation, redundancy and security, we work alongside the operator to build a reliable, scalable network ready to support the fleet’s digital evolution.
A weak network affects the entire vessel
Dead zones, interference, insufficient capacity, and inadequate redundancy can compromise connectivity and network-dependent digital services. At the fleet level, diverse architectures also increase management complexity and make it more difficult to implement common configurations and standards.
- Poor coverage: inconsistent performance across different areas of the vessel.
- Insufficient capacity: infrastructure that cannot support actual network demand.
- Limited resilience: greater exposure to failures and service disruptions.
- Inconsistent standards: greater complexity in fleet-wide management.

We assess the vessel before designing the network.
Every project starts with an assessment of the existing infrastructure, onboard spaces and actual network usage. Based on the data collected, Seafy defines Wi-Fi coverage, backbone architecture, segmentation, redundancy and security, tailoring the network to the vessel’s actual requirements.
Where possible, we integrate and optimize existing equipment, upgrading only what is necessary. The same standard can then be replicated across other vessels, creating a standardized, documented architecture that is easier to manage across the entire fleet.
Upgrade the network without starting from scratch
Seafy works on both new installations and networks already operating onboard. For refit projects, we assess which existing assets can be retained, identify critical areas and upgrade the architecture to support both current and future requirements.
Each intervention is planned to minimize the impact on vessel operations, protect existing investments and prepare the infrastructure for new digital services.

A solid network makes the fleet more efficient
A well-designed network reduces critical issues, simplifies management and establishes a consistent technology standard across vessels. For shipowners and ferry operators, this means greater operational continuity, more efficient infrastructure investments and less complexity as the fleet evolves.
Most importantly, it means having a foundation ready for new services: from connectivity and IoT to entertainment, communications and crew tools, without having to redesign the infrastructure every time new requirements emerge.
